June 5 to 7, 2009; Graduation Ceremony

JUNE 5, Friday, Graduation Dinner
Sunny and warm again but not complaining! I cut the lawn this morning, washed the truck and Rochelle’s car as Vanessa and her “Beau”Garrette, are driving it to the Grad dinner tonight and the ceremony on Sunday; grand-dad just couldn’t let them take a dusty car now! Could he?
Rochelle had a few mothers over for tea and sandwich this afternoon so Tucker & Spony and I were ban from the house. I just barely had time to take my shower after all that hard work.
I relaxed for a while as my back is bugging me. At 4 p.m. Garrette’s parents and grand-parents came over for a photo shoot then we all headed to the school gym while Vanessa and Garrette went to town to meet the other Grads. The Grads arrived around 6:15 p.m. and it was a photo-shoot frenzy! We all went in and took our seat then the Grads came in. They were all so beautiful and handsome with their new dresses and suits. We had dinner then the show began. The grads sang, did a couple skits then the teachers roasted them. There was a student designated as their historian and she recited meaningful and funny events that have happened to them since they first met in grade one. Keep in mind this is a private Christian school. The whole evening was a success and all of us were very proud of Vanessa. At our table were mom and dad, us, Sid and Vera (Kevin’s parents) and Doreen and Gord (Rochelle’s mom). We had a very delicious meal served to us.
After the grads left, we all helped in putting everything away and take down the decorations then came home to bed for a well deserved sleep.

JUNE 6, Saturday, relax day
Just that...a relaxing day! Vanessa got home around 6 this morning after partying all night (chaperoned of course) They had all kinds of things planned for them and now she is sleeping the day away.
I cut a CD of the pictures I took for them then we went into town to look for tables we were asked to purchased but don’t seem to be able to find them anymore. We went to the local pub for lunch and saw our favourite waitress, Jody, whom we hadn’t seen in over 3 years. It was great seeing her and catching up to old news. We went to Sears to return a package and ended it up buying a 32” flat screen TV, a “Sony Bavaria” at a very good price so couldn’t pass it up.
We watched TV in the evening in our rig as the kids were out with friends for the evening.

JUNE 7, Sunny, Graduation Ceremony
Cloud and sun greeted us today and comfortable temperature. Val helped Rochelle prepared the food for tonight’s family get-together and I downloaded some music file for Val’s MP3 player which Graeme helped me set up and showed me a free site to download from.
Jeffrey and his friend, Elaine, showed up from New-Westminster. We chatted for a while then we had to change and get ready for the Graduation Ceremony at 6:30 p.m. We headed out to the school for 6 p.m. and got our seats and the ceremony began on time. There were numerous awards given and Vanessa got a few bursaries from the IOOF and a couple of other places. She was also named to the All Star Teams at both the Fraser Valley Championship and the Provincial Championships and received the “Female Senior Secondary Coach’s Award”. Quite an achievement!
One of their classmates, Angie Maccan, gave a beautiful and very personal speech as the official “Class Valedictorian”.
Their Youth Pastor also gave them quite a send-off then the Diploma Presentation took place.

The ceremony ended at 9:30 p.m. Coffee and cake were served but we didn’t stay for that; we came back to the house and got the food ready for the crowd that was coming over. All the family members, friends, Garrette’s parents and grand-parents and a couple of graduates and their parents also showed up. A big crowd indeed! The whole thing wrapped up by 10:30 p.m. and we cleaned up the house then went to bed all very much satisfied and happy.
Vanessa got $2800 in tuitions fees. She also received numerous donations from her grand-parents, parents, uncles to help her offset the College fees (she already got a bill from the college). She begins her new learning’s in September.
We are all so proud of our grand-daughter, daughter, niece: Vanessa!
