February 10 to 18, 2007

FEBRUARY 10, Saturday, cloudy and cold

Packed everything and got ready to leave. Got propane for $23 and fuel @ 2.299 for 17.4 gal We went out for dinner at a neat little Mexican diner with great seafood and steaks. The place was packed and people never stopped coming in the who;e time we were there.

FEBRUARY 11, Sunday, overcast and cold

Left at 10 a.m. and took hwy 35 to I-37 then south on 77 for about 50 miles. Turned left at Riviera where we stopped for coffee then headed out to hwy 281.
We arrived in Linn city at the Lazy Palm Park situated in the middle of nowhere. The drive down consisted of low shrubberies and live oaks but much smaller. Huge cultivated fields and traffic was very light. One thing I noticed is that people down here don't believe in signalling. They'll turn at the drop of a hat without any warnings. Weather was overcast all the way and the temp. hovered around 55*F
The truck ran really well. The EGT ran around 6-700*F which is a little hotter than before but still within its range. I actually gained fuel mileage....ran at 11.5 mpg which is the best yet.

Arrived at our site at 2:15 p.m. and the place is 3/4 empty. $17. per night so paid for 6 nights. We are 17 miles from Edinburgh, the closest town for groceries and facilities.
We took a drive to Mission, our next site and checked out the place. Found out we can stay here for $208 for a month which turns out to be cheaper than staying for two weeks so we booked it.

Came home via 107

FEBRUARY 12 to 16

We've had a mixture of sun and clouds and cool weather. We explored south of here to the Mexican border and as far east as McAllen and west to Hildago. Places worth exploring later.
It warmed up some in Tuesday but back to clouds on Wednesday, Valentine Day.
Stayed home and read on Thursday as it was cold and windy. Friday was sunny again and warmer so we took a drive to Raymondville then south on 77 to the Mexican border but didn't cross as we had Tucker with us. Stopped in Harlingen to check out the Internet as a tourist centre Stopped at a little Mexican restaurant near the border. Val was hesitant in going in but once in, we found the food to be very good.

FEBRUARY 17, Saturday, sunny

Very windy today. Packed and drove 60 km to Mission and our new site. We will be here a whole month @ $208. Also got more propane for $15. The name of the place is called Mission Garden RV Resort. It got as high as 75*F (23C).
They have WI-FI but one has to go to the club house to get it
