August 5 to 9, 2009 North Shuswap and Vancouver

AUG. 5, Wednesday, Gateway
It was cooler and partially cloudy most of the day; I think the heat wave is finally over and we will be back to normal temperature.
I took the boat out of the water and washed it down then I put the cover on it readying it for its trip back to Vancouver this Friday.
We got a call from Val’s sister Audrey that Ken’s daughter, a close friend of the family, died this morning. She was a young 29 years old. She had a condition where all blood vessels kept developing aneurism and she died while going for an MIR at the hospital. A very sad day for all of us indeed as she was such a neat kid, full of life and happiness.
We had a quiet evening.

AUG 6, Thursday, Gateway
While Val was at work, I went to Chase to get some groceries and return the movie series “WIRE” that we’ve been watching and picked up the fifth and last series. That is an excellent series if you can get past all the swearing. While at the groceries store I ran into an old acquaintance of mine from my sailing days, Mike Skulsky. Being lunch time, we went to a local restaurant and had lunch and caught up to each other’s news. He had to go back to work (at Lake Adams) so we said our goodbyes. Funny to run into him here!
I came back home and got dinner ready for tonight.
By the way, I have now recovered 2500 pictures from the disk that Glen from Logan Lake gave me. I am quite pleased and hopefully the second half of the disk will yield more pictures.
In the evening, Donna and her friend came over for a visit for a little while. It’s been cloudy today but the sun did poke through in the afternoon and the temperature climbed to 85*F.
Donna and I went half on the cost for a TELUS Wireless Internet “stick” so now we have internet hook-up any time we want it.

AUG. 7, Friday, to the Lower Mainland
We left around 11 am for Vancouver. We stopped in Kamloops for breakfast at Tim Horton then went on. The day was warm and sunny but as we got to the top of the Coquihalla it got colder and cloudier. We stopped at the top for a quick bathroom break and for Tucker to walk a bit and do his thing. We stopped again in Chilliwack to take on fuel then went on to Port Moody where we met Jeffrey. We put the boat in the water and switch the trailer to his truck then went to a local pub for dinner. We had a nice visit and it ended by us going to his place for the night and him going to meet his friends at Gibson by boat.

AUG 8, Saturday, to Chilliwack,
We got up early, showered and called Joanne but there was no one home so we left for Chilliwack after stopping for breakfast at McDonald. Rochelle wanted to go shopping so off to
the mall we went. I took a couple of pictures of Kevin and his new bike after which he went for a ride with a buddy of his.
For dinner, we went to a Greek restaurant with the girls and mom and dad of course. Graham was in Abbotsford with his friends so we never saw him all week-end. In the evening we watched a movie then it was beddy-bye.

AUG, 9, Sunday, back to North Shuswap
After a visit with the kids, we left to go back home. Val has to work tomorrow so we didn’t want to be late getting home. It was a very nice sunny drive. I topped up before leaving and again in Chase. We stopped in Merritt and Kamloops at the Walmart store to look for a pair of shoes for Val’s work. She found a pair in Kamloops. We got home at 4 p.m., put everything away then went for a quick drink with Donna and Marcel. After dinner, we watched another episode of “WIRE”
